WEST RIDING SENIOR CUP - Semi-Final

LEEDS UNITED QUALIFY FOR FINAL BY LUCKY GOAL

Last Evening on the Elland Road ground, before about 3,000 spectators, Leeds United, by defeating Bradford, qualified for the final for the senior trophy of the West Riding. From the kick-off the Park Avenue representatives were almost continuously a defending side, and judged by the play in this match their position in the League is by no means surprising. They seldom displayed skill beyond the elimentary, and Scattergood alone saved the Bradfordians from a severe trouncing. They were, however, unfortunate in losing the services of Howie after twelve minutes' play. A feature of th tie was the runs and centres by Clark in the second half.

Playing with the wind at the commencement, Leeds were quickly in the neighbourhood of the Bradford goal, but after twenty-five minutes Bradford threatened the United, and Donaghy hit the crossbar with a fast cross shot. Five minutes later the only goal of the game was scored, and it came about in a curious manner. Baker delivering a long ground drive towards the Bradford goal. Curtis, the Bradford right back, met the ball and passed it backwards to Scattergood, who had advanced to get the ball himself, but missed the ball, which trickled over the line between the posts. Leeds had quite as much of the game whilst playing against the wind had they had whilst assisted by it. Batten was the first Bradfordian to test Whalley in the second half, and the Leeds custodian was severely tried a minute later. A poor Cup-tie ended in a win for Leeds United by 1 goal to Bradford none. Teams:-

Leeds United: Whalley, goal; Duffield and Frew, backs; Sherwin, Hart and Baker, half backs; Mason, Poyntz, Armitage, Swan and Clark, forwards.

Bradford Park Avenue: Scattergood goal; Curtis and Dickinson, backs; Howie, McDonald and Barnett half backs; McCandless, Batten, Humphrey, Peel and Donaghy, forwards.
